Mythical Creatures Contest - QuetzalcoatlQuetzalcoatl is a Mesoamerican deity whose name means 'feathered serpent'. Quetzalcoatl, or rather the feathered serpent deity, has been worshipped by many different ethno-political groups in Mesoamerican history.
Among the Aztecs, whose beliefs are the best-documented in the historical sources, Quetzalcoatl, being one of the important gods of the Aztec pantheon, was related to gods of the wind, of Venus, of the dawn, of merchants and of arts, crafts and knowledge. He was also the patron god of the Aztec priesthood, of learning and knowledge.
So....I know I've been absent from deviantART a... while. Last submission was in February apparently, but whenever I'm not feeling inspired there is nothing quite like a contest to get my ass into gear again, so here is my go at this. Worked hard to squeeze as much time I could afford into painting this as I could and I'm still only just managing to submit this moments before the deadline. Oh how typical of me...
Sorry it's so detail-heavy, I was never good at the 'simple yet stylish' thing. May look cluttered here, but should be okay on a shirt I imagine.
In hindsight Quetzalcoatl was not the most original of subjects I could have picked (I've seen him float around quite frequently in the contest gallery), but I didn't really have any time to start over for a new creature design. Hope you don't mind.
Enough rambling, hope you like it! If so, please consider voting for the design. Apparently this contest is one of a popularity kind, so please accept my apologies for having to pester you about this.
Time Taken: Twenty? I'm not sure.
